Reading Workshop
My goal is to help students become lifelong readers. I will model reading strategies in mini-lessons, and students will have the opportunity to practice strategies that work for them through independent reading in self-selected books that are at the "just right" level. Through weekly one-on-one conferences and small group guided reading, each student will build the individual skills he or she needs to become a lifelong reader! In addition to independent reading in class, students will be responsible for reading 30 minutes a night. Ask your child to "teach" you their favorite strategies when you are reading together!
Writing Workshop
As fourth grade writers, students will be exposed to three different types of writing: narrative, informational, and opinion. I will be using my own writing, as well as mentor texts, in mini-lessons to teach students how to develop pieces from each of these different types of writing. Students will be writing about what interests, excites, and inspires them, and through independent writing time, one-on-one conferences, and small group work, each writer will reach his or her full potential! Students will also have the opportunity to share and celebrate their work during each writing workshop.
